Data inventory

Source, unit, version — and limitation.

This inventory describes the datasets Farleda currently calls or embeds. It avoids blanket coverage promises: availability, licence and freshness can vary by upstream source and by route.

Operational coverage

What the current implementation can query — without implying universal availability.

Daily

transit aggregation

Transitous processes public transport feeds daily. Actual operators, modes, licences and update dates are disclosed per feed in the Transitous source catalogue.

Transitous sources ↗

Per feed

operator coverage

Farleda can route only services present in the upstream feeds at query time. It does not claim every European operator or every journey is covered.

Transitous documentation ↗

Rolling

airport dataset

Farleda downloads medium and large airports with IATA codes from OurAirports. The publisher places the data in the public domain and gives no accuracy or fitness warranty.

OurAirports data ↗

31

canonical grid countries

The embedded annual snapshot contains EU countries plus selected European neighbours. UK is stored canonically as GB; an internal UK alias is excluded from the displayed count.

Farleda grid API ↗

9

transport modes

Nine calculation modes with explicit activity units. Car uses vehicle-kilometres; public transport and flights use passenger-kilometres.

Farleda modes API ↗

On demand

places and stays

Points of interest and accommodation candidates are queried from OpenStreetMap services. Results depend on OSM completeness and upstream availability.

Annual grid snapshot · 31 countries

Historical country values embedded in the current fallback dataset. They are not live readings. Lower values produce a lower modelled electric-rail factor.

Current emission-factor catalogue

Rounded values used by the application. DESNZ 2026 factors are designed for UK activities; Farleda discloses their use as planning proxies for European journeys. These operational factors are not a complete well-to-wheel inventory.

Platform metrics

Public aggregates generated server-side; they do not expose individual trip or account records.

trips planned

Count of stored trip_generated platform events. It can include trips later deleted.

Modelled CO₂e difference

Sum of stored comparison values on trip_generated events. New group comparisons use max(0, distance in km × travellers × 128 ÷ 1,000 − group trip emissions in kg CO₂e). Historical events are not automatically recalculated; this is not proof of avoided travel or a homogeneous impact series.

kilometres planned

Sum of total itinerary kilometres recorded on trip_generated events. Individual legs can use Transitous geometry, OSRM distance or a disclosed great-circle fallback.

public-transit mode share

Share of generated trips whose dominant recorded mode is rail, coach or ferry among trips with a non-null dominant mode.

Aggregate endpoint after API release: GET /api/public/v1/metrics.json · one-hour application cache · CC BY 4.0 envelope.

Freshness and licence boundaries

Published cadence or actual implementation behaviour; no invented refresh promises.

Public read APIs

Versioned JSON endpoints exposed by the Next.js application. Availability depends on the app deployment.

These listed GET endpoints currently return Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * and require no authentication. Farleda does not publish a universal 10 req/s guarantee. Passport verification is a separate rate-limited POST endpoint — the browser form for it lives on the passport verification page; enterprise limits belong in a service agreement.
